Basuki finds inspiration in the artwork embellishing the Borobudur temple to create this "Abstract Relief" series. The temple is adorned with relief panels that tell of Buddha`s life, teachings and deeds. Painting with acrylics, Basuki uses a range of blue hues to transmit a soothing spiritualism. Arrives unstretched and unframed. Handmade by S. Basuki S. Basuki was born in Magetan, eastern Java in 1955. A talented painter, he prefers non-formal style to trained academic techniques. "Directly applying my skills enriches my work much more than learning theory in school," he says. While working for the World Project of Ancol Fantasy in 1983, he learned art under the guidance of Sudaryono Sudarso, as well as other senior painters in Jakarta. A quick learner, Basuki excels at absorbing the varied wisdom of other painters and transforming it into an original and personal style. In 1992 Basuki moved to Bali with his family in search of a better life. His works are heavily influenced by everyday events in Bali, and the diversity of Balinese dances. Using both acrylics and oils on canvas, he offers a spectacular vision of his adopted land. Basuki has participated in numerous exhibitions in Bali and Java.
