Handmade by Nirote Nimwiwat "My name is Nirote Nimwiwat and I was born in southern Thailand on April 6, 1974. In high school, I was always given the best marks in mathematics and science and my path looked as if it were all laid out. However, I never really liked these subjects; they never were at one with what I really aspired to do in my life. So I went against my parents` will and `threw away` a potentially brilliant career away to follow my heart. I branched out into philosophy at the university and studied for two years but I did not graduate. In fact, I could not fully express my feelings and philosophical thoughts solely with words and I discovered that I would do it better through arts. Hence I decided to study fine arts at the university where I completed a bachelor`s degree in 1991. "I believe my work can be separated into two distinct periods. The first occurred when I was a junior and began painting at the university. I would grab thick brushes and let my temper and strong emotions express themselves. Most of this work resulted in colored faces from the philosophers Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus and also in nudes. The second one occurred when I did some voluntary teaching in rural villages in the southern region.
