Priddis Music, one of the first U.S. “karaoke” companies, actually started out producing accompaniment music for beauty pageant contestants and music teachers in the early 1980`s. Quickly, word spread and Priddis monthly cassette releases became a popular item in music stores across the country. In the early 90’s Priddis followed the “karaoke” trend of on-screen lyrics by also producing CDGs, most commonly known as CD+Graphics. In order to make karaoke accessible to everyone, in late 1999, Priddis released their DVD Karaoke Series, becoming the leader in DVD karaoke. Priddis became the “rule-setter” and “blue-print” in DVD Karaoke for all other karaoke companies.
